B3S SubTranslator - The Beginning

Posted in B3S SubTranslator on 27.11.2007.

B3S SubTranslator is an application that can help you with translation of a subtitle file to another language. It currently works fine with translating Serbian subtitles to Croatian language.

As there are a couple of the users of the B3S SubTranslator (a.k.a. B3S SubTitler), (and some of them are constantly asking me what have you done, is there anything new, will you give me the last version, and so on and on...) I have decided create this news board, to answer their questions. And if you want, you can subscribe to our RSS feed, and get the info as soon as I post it.

After the naggy intro, maybe you would like to know something about the mysterious B3S SubTranslator.

B3S SubTranslator is an application that can help you with translation of a subtitle file to another language. It currently works fine with translating Serbian subtitles to Croatian language.

If you want to contribute with expanding the languages, you can start making your own dictionaries to translate from whatever language, to any other whatever language, I will be glad to put it as a Language pack in some future version of the application...

When tried to open subtitle files with ext. srt (also txt) I got always message box - error reading subtitle file.
Any idea why?

PS - those subtitles are good for many players and also for SCGT.

If you get a message "error reading subtitle file", it's usually the problem in the format of the file (usually the extension doesn't have anything to do with it, but the contents of the file).

B3S SubTranslator is strict (maybe too strict) with obeying the specification of the subtitle formats, therefore, if there is any discrepancy from the format (usually some extra new-line characters), it will fail to load the file, and it will report such an error.

As you say other players will load the subtitle, and that's because, those players allow those discrepancies, and are not as strict as B3SST. In some future releases, I plan to fix that problem.

As for now, you should try just to edit the subtitle file with "Subtitle Workshop" (http://www.urusoft.net/), or something similar. Just open it and save it to a new file, and that one should work in B3SST. If not, sorry, you have to wait for the new release.

Thx
